Feature List

This is an always up to date list of current and planned features for GW2 TacO

Current features:
  • Marker system
    • Users are able to mark 3D points in the game world with several options.
    • Marker packs can be created and shared
    • Marker packs included in the archive contain HoT/DryTop/Silverwastes chest spawn locations (incomplete) and directional markers for the Gorseval and Sabetha raid fights.
  • WvW integration
    • Automatically displays 3D markers at notable WvW locations with their name, current owner (color), and time remaining until the location can be flipped again. (Requires an API key to identify the world you're playing on.)
  • Map timer
    • A configurable map timer window shows what's going on in the game world.
    • Configured for HoT maps by default
    • Now includes timers for World Bosses
  • Location based timer system
    • Based on the location of the player a timed message system shows text on the screen. This is currently only used to display cannon timers for the Sabetha raid fight.
  • TS3 integration
    • Using one of the default supplied TS3 plugins the overlay displays the channel you're currently in for each of the TS3 servers you're connected to. The feature for now is non-interactive.
    • Talking people are now sorted to the top of the list.
  • Tactical Compass
    • A compass that is displayed around the character.
  • Range markers
    • Flat range marker circles show up around the character. The various distances can be toggled on and off.
  • Mushroom markers with countdowns on when they will be back up
    • The mushrooms in the Vale Guardian arena show when they will be active again.
  • Mouse highlight
    • Huge crosshairs will make it very easy for you to find your cursor. Color and outline can be adjusted.

  • Daily Dungeon and Dungeon Frequenter progression tracking
    • Automatically track which dungeon paths you have already completed today, and which ones you should avoid to get the most out of the Dungeon Frequenter achievements. (Requires API key)
  • Weekly Raid progression tracking
    • Automatically track which raid encounters you have already finished this week. (Requires API key)
  • Grid for the health bars of enemies
    • Configurable, location based HP bar notches show phases of a boss
  • Notes window
    • A window where you can quickly type up notes for yourself. Saves and reloads automatically.

  • Dynamic, minimalistic interface
    • TacO blends into GW2 as much as possible. The interface is designed to be non-intrusive. It's also adjustable to fit your GW2 interface size and uses the same fonts and colors as the GW2 ui to integrate better into the game.

Planned features:
  • Extended key binding capabilities to toggle features on and off on the fly
  • Range display. You push a button to mark a location in the game world, and your exact distance to that location will be displayed until you push the button again.
  • Minimap that's able to show the markers you see in the game world.
  • Trading post API integration
  • Customizable daily todo checklist
  • Togglable vsync for the overlay (performance option)
  • Tactical arrow showing the direction of a point of interest
  • Speedrun tracker, a dot that follows your best speedrun of a particular area and lets you race against yourself
  • Making the TS3 part optional (possible performance improvement on some machines)
  • Global transparency setting for the marker display.
  • Language file containing all the text in TacO so it can be translated by you guys

  1. If you take suggestions:
    - a timer for Shatterer's breakbar
    - Permanent markers on the Tripple Trouble wurm blocking spots (visible when zoomed in, but small and on the ground)
    - Slothasor edible mushroom spawn timer (every 50 seconds, starting with 7:00)

    1. I'd like that :) Shatti Breakbar Timers would be helpfull for some Achievements.

  2. A few more suggestions:
    - Using floor level vertexes to draw shapes with filled in color and a label. This could be used for example in boss fights to label areas or to draw location of traps in Super Adventure Box
    - Feet level vertexes to draw lines/paths (that or record player position and automatically place vertexes and connect). Can be used for mushroom eating paths or resource farming paths.
    - Have layers available to be shared via the program and then downloaded by others. Example: User creates sab tribulation mode path and then uploads via the program. This layer can then be downloaded by users (sorted/searched) and will thus persist between version upgrades.

  4. Could we have the source code to build an OSX app, please? Gw2 Dps Meter has done that and we can use those addons, TacO would be great to use in a Mac.

    1. TacO is not open source. It's built on a UI engine that represents 5 years of work, something I won't make opensource for several reasons, only one being that it's used in many other projects as well. Also, TacO uses DirectX 11 to render which is not available on OSX.

      Delete
    2. DirectX 11 is now available on Mac OS. Is it feasible to make a version for Mac OS since there's DirectX 11?

      Delete
    3. No. The mumble link API is not supported by the Mac client and based on the information I have won't be supported any time soon (if at all).
The mumble link is at the heart of TacO. Without it, it's a mouse cursor enhancer and a map timer.

  5. Please add boss timers in your next build. Its the only thing that is preventing me from using your overlay exclusively.

    1. I agree that especially in raids an overlay timer specific to the mechanics of each raid boss would be wonderful. I do understand that because it is an instance it may not be easy to create and for it to work may violate eula for GW2. If there is a way around that maybe even the ability to customize or start and stop your own timers that may be a great option to consider.

  6. It would be a nice feature if for certain adventures you have some of the paths you need to take for gold visualized. Most of them have a set path you need to take to get gold, it would be nice to have them drawn out.

  7. would be a dream come true is this ap could show a timer for the new and old zones when tanking vale guardian, so many tanks move too soon or too late :)

  8. Possible to make a timer for Matthias Shards of Rage and Blood Shards?

  9. I've noticed that resource nodes don't show up. Is this feature implemented? Only on certain maps?

  10. Possible suggestion: a DPS meter
(coming from someone very salty that 1366x768 screen resolution is never supported on combat log reading ones)

    1. Just as soon as the combat log is exposed through an official API :)

  11. Excellent tool. I am using it a lot and will be sending some Marker packs to you soon.
    I have some enhancement suggestions:
    * The ability to add a number to each icon. Possibly based on the order it appears in the POI file or perhaps (and preferred by me), if an "AddNumber" attribute is added, through a dialog when it is placed. This would allow tracking of each point -- useful in Drytop for Numbered Lost Coins and other places. As it is I have created severeal sets of 60 otherwise identical icons that are individually numbered.
    * Add "Restart GW2 Taco" above "Exit GW2 Taco" while I am editing the various POI files I have to turn off and restart for the change to take effect.
    * Provide KeyBind option for enable/disable marker editor (already planned). Sometimes when it is active and get into a fight and I am unable to target things because the marker editor popup often (not always) appears even though I am not at a marker.
    * A non-square icon image gets stretched/squashed into a square. I redid the icon files that I had problems with, but the square requirement should be stated in a rev to teh marker pack post.
    * Allow markers set in a guild hall to show in all map versions of the guild hall. As more people enter, the guild hall switches to another map (looks identical) that allows more people. Any markers placed in another guild hall map are not visible.

    ReplyDelete
  12. add an option to reset all the markers, sometimes i put markers in stupid places and can never manage to get back to remove them

    ReplyDelete

    1. If you want to delete all the markers just delete the poidata.xml file from next to TacO while it's not running.

  13. Hey BoyC, great overlay!
I'm currently working on adding paths for map completion using the same technique you used for the guild missions. This is taking quite a while per map. If anyone else is also working on this I'd love to share the load.

  14. Hope you add paths for navigating twisted castle in raids. Including bell locations, which path should be taken, etc.

    1. I haven't really seen any good way of doing that since different people need to be doing different things, it'd become a huge mess...

      Delete
  15. It would be nice if it was possible to add descriptions to markers that get displayed when the mousepointer hovers above a marker. You could even add the distance as additional information -> something like "Test Marker (237m)".

    ReplyDelete
  16. hi would it be possible to make an option to check on and off, the ability to set custom markers (+ -)

as even if u dont want to set them u do by writing a text

and keys u normally dont use like screen up/down include/del pos1/last for example dont work

    would be a nice feature

tx for the overlay it is really useful

  17. Bug / problem encountered:

    - If the tag "MarkerCategory" contains a space and this category is unchecked in the menu, then TacO crashes at closing because it can not save the name in the TacOConfig.xml file (spaces are Not accepted which obliges for the readability of putting _ which are ugly. The first idea was to manage the space, otherwise a member of the team had the idea to transform the _ into space in the menu so everything is
named with _ but will be visible with space.

    - Accents are a subject that may seem trivial to anglophones but for all other communities need the same minimal accents management, I will take the example of Eastern or Latin languages. Even if it does not matter, it will be great if that could be done.

We took the view that the categorydata.xml would not be useful in the future or just to order the menus differently, so we opt for an integration of the menus in each of our XML. It turned out that this could in some cases cause a TacO crash having apparently times struggling to revert to a tree already created and with multiple additions (not all the time) so we opt for an XML per activity.

A problem I encountered is also that if I have two identical markers in two different XML (because two different activities or routes) TacO does not get to the posters, it will display only one even if you disable The menu of this one. For example, for guild bounty, I wanted to have a XML for "Bounty > Classic Search > Name" menu (where markers are displayed one by one) and a XML for "Bounty > All Points Search > Name" where they are all displayed, one encounters the concern that even by unchecking one of the two, the markers that must be displayed one by one will no longer be displayed.

And last problem, TacO dont allow to put markers where other are already in position, but if others activity (guild course and bounty have same way sometimes)

  18. How about some Discord integration? A lot of the people I know have switched over to Discord for many reasons (one of them being that it's free and it's been improving a lot since it first came out).

Also, I don't know if it's possible (or ever within TOS limits), but perhaps some indicators on bosses to when something happens. This would really be helpful on the Sabetha fight if you have a green bomb on you and you need to throw it. Something like WoW's Deadly Boss Mods. Not sure how able that can be since I don't know what the TOS limitations are to something like this.

  19. Please give us an option for 4k scaling. The infoline is really small, you can't read anything.

    1. The info line doesn't really contain much useful info, it's for debug purposes mostly. If you want to make it readable in 4k go into the css files and change the font :)

  20. It would be extremely useful if you could add options to display big warning on raids that Iam for ex. "Poisoned" or "Corrupted", with options to change colour and placement on screen.

  23. It would be nice if this becomes available to mac gamers for gw2 like me... :P

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sorry, the way TacO draws the UI and overlays it on the game is completely Windows specific, it'd take a lot of work to get it to work on Mac.

      Delete
  24. Some requests that I believe will make a great program even better:

Modify Support for Multiple Instances of GW2 for single-display computer
Currently if I have 2 versions of GW2 running with 1 monitor (one window hidden by another, alt-tab between them as necessary), GW2Taco overlay content flickers between the overlay for each instance, even though only 1 instance is visible. Is there any way to have Taco only return overlay information for the instance that is currently visible? Also when leaving a marker, it is random which game instance map the marker is attributed to.
This would be OK if I had a dual screen setup (one instance on each screen) but with a single screen, only one visible at a time, GW2Taco is not useable.

    Info line Font Change
Use a fixed width font to prevent horizontal text jitter as the width of individual characters change as the character moves and/or either FPS value changes.

    Map Timer Configuration
Move the single time to the left of each row & left justify each event in the line rather than center them. Currently unless you have the timer very wide part of the time or part of the event name is cut off. (possibly add an option for this layout instead of forced change for those that prefer the current configuration)
I sometimes want to know how long until a boss that is not on the vertical line. The ability to hover or click on a block then have a tool-tip-like time value display would be useful.

    Range Rings
Add 1500 range ring since some skills now have that limit. (e.g., Arcane Blast, Hunter's Shot)

    Range to (certain) Marker Function
As a mesmer I would like to be able to drop a marker, open a port, run 5000 units from the port and open the portal exit.
As a siege user, I would like to be able to drop a marker next to a wall then run away to the max distance for various siege units then setup the unit there.
To accomplish this I would like to be able to measure distance to certain marks (all marks if possible, but that might be calculationally limiting) that I pointed to with my cursor. Another option for this would be to enable a single special marker that would continuously report its distance in a tiny window and that could be remotely erased or moved to my current location.

    Menu
For submenus (like range rings' distances) add a close sub menu option and keep the menu from closing each time something is selected.

    Content Changes

    Reason

    GW2 Taco\categorydata.xml(98):
    GW2 Taco\categorydata.xml(98):
So a ring of distant chests does not cover the screen.

    GW2 Taco\POIs\Guildraces.xms(99):
    GW2 Taco\POIs\Guildraces.xms(99):
Don't need until close to them.

Change Dragonstand Chest (Noxious Pod) to one with no background. Size to 50%

Modify Ore Section of categorydata.xml to

    In categorydata.xml
    Added
    fadeNear="10000" fadeFar="20000"
to the Resource and Chest Header
I did not like a ring of distant chests continuously moving across the screen.

How can I send you the marker packs for the above ore images?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can send me the images at boyc[at]scene[dot]hu.
As for the multi-client thing, that's a hard limitation of the Mumble API utilized by the GW2 client - the Mumble link works by constantly filling up a set memory area with data. When you have two clients open, both of them write over the same area and it's random which client's data TacO will access. This makes multi-client support for TacO impossible.

    1. Make sure you have the API key for the account you're playing on set to TacO. Also the dungeon display updates every 5 minutes (due to API caching) so you might need to wait a bit for the display to change.

  32. I would really love to see a feature to turn ALL markers OFF, so that I can choose which marker packs to switch ON, instead of having to switch each pack/grouping off separately. I know I can turn off markers altogether with "Toggle Tactical Display", but that's not what I want. I want to use markers, but just the one or two packs I want to use at the moment.

    1. None of those are exposed through offical APIs so they won't be supported by TacO. That's for two reasons - first, it's a grey zone that I don't want TacO to get into, and second, they require constant maintenance after each client patch which I simply don't have the time for.

    1. There are a couple marker packs included in the archive, but for the more extensive ones you'll need to look through the stuff that other players create. There are a couple good packs listed in the top right menu under Additional Marker Packs.

    2. yeah i just wanted it for basic nodes like elder wood that i stood next to while i messed with settings to see if the markers would appear, are basic nodes not included in archived those marker packs you mentioned? cause idk what IS included in said marker packs but absolutely nothing is showing up at all s:

    3. From the FAQ:
TacO works, but I don't see all the resource nodes in the game
TacO is only a platform, the information of where the nodes are is created by players since it takes a massive amount of work to mark everything. You can look around for marker packs that might have the information you're looking for, or help the community by creating your own and sharing it with others.

  39. i would like to request a small addition to the program,
namely to have an icon in the taskbar where things like sound/discord/steam icons go to, for taco. it doesnt have to be interactable. but just an icon so that those that have Taco running already can check it so they dont acidently start 2 Taco's at once on accident.

  42. Absolutely LOVE TacO! It is an amazing tool!
One thing I would love to see implemented is a browser window.
As of now I have to toggle Steam overlay on and off to use my own webtool (not officially released yet), but if TacO had a browser window it could be onscreen all the time!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry, that's just not going to happen.
TacO is built to be as optimal, small footprint and performant as possible. Embedding a web browser would increase the complexity by about 4-5 orders of magnitude.
It's the reason why I started writing my own overlay versus using sluggish bloatware like Overwolf.

      Delete
  43. Mirroring everyone else I'd like to say how awesome TacO is.
As for a Feature Request, would it be possible to implement some kind of UI mask (either automatic or user-created) so that TacOs markers don't cover over the chat-box/skill icons?

I'm working on developing a drop-rate tracker which 'reads' the chat-log & combines that with mumble position data, but things go a bit crazy whenever I pass by a harvesting node at the moment :P

  44. I really like Taco

But sometimes I wish I didnt have to build so much submarkers to show different icons within a single main marker.

For this I had an idea

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GW2TacO/comments/94cps0/suggestion_splitting_category_and_images/

However this will take development time and dont know if this has high priority as it can be solved by having a lot of sub categories.

  45. I couldn't find a weekday attribute for markers. So we could show pact supply agent icons only if they are on place.
(weekday="fr" duration="86400" timeOffset="{seconds from midnight in world time when agents change position}")

Second a Group of Markers On/Off feature. When i press something like shift-"-", then Taco should ask me, if i want to deactivate the whole group of icons to which the current icon belongs.

And last a description feature would be great. If i press a key near a marker a box with the content of a description-attribute of marker and/or markergroup is shown. This should help to decide if a marker(group) is currently needed or not.

  46. I can't find an option for configuring the range on the collection markers like the Halloween Carving Pumpkins - markers that are cleared by pressing the Action Key. Almost every time I pick up or interact with the object I then have to jump around trying to clear the marker as well.

Could someone point me in the right direction if this is possible to change? If not then being able to would make a world of difference.

    1. The trigger range is defined in the marker itself. I recently found a bug where markers don't always trigger correctly if several of them are placed on the same place (even if some of them are hidden), and you might be having an issue with having several carving pumpkin marker packs loaded at the same time that interfere with each other due to this bug (this is how i found the issue). For a current workaround make sure that only one marker pack for carving pumpkins is loaded (taco comes pre-loaded with one, i suggest you delete that as there are more up-to-date ones out there)

      Delete
    2. Lmao, after completely giving up and moving on to something else I tripped over the "triggerRange" property of the markers themselves, so I can configure it per marker category ^_^

  49. The trail function is nice but when I have parts that are crossing it becomes impossible to follow.

Is there a pointing / crossing area to unlock next set of path markers ?

To avoid losing my way ...
    To be more precise :

    - Starting marker (currently easy with one simple icon)
    - Following first trail path until a given position.
    - Then Press F to make disappear the previous path we just followed, and make appear the next path to follow.

So we never lose our way when there are 10+ paths who does cross on a single XML save.

I am available anytime to talk about that because i wanna share some interresting maps trails. But that gets rapidly confusing.

  53. Hello, do you plan to add Spanish? I found in reddit a post with an excel with translations made in several languages. By the way, excellent program.

    1. Hi. I only maintain and distribute the english translation with the overlay. You can find translations for several other languages online, all you need to do is to put the appropriate files they provide next to the overlay and change the language in the TacO menu.

  54. Hey there, I don't know if it's possible but can you make an alternative party view? Something like the good old Guildwars 1? I think it would make party status and especially healing a lot better!

  55. Can you provide WvW integration for the Blish Hud?

I know that it is a bit nice to ask for a different overlay but I can handle it better

  56. Hi Boyc, i like this addon, thanks for you job.
Do you have a plan to translate quest and/or conversation of story line ?

if you dont plan thia, can help me with some information about how to create a new addon?

I created a app to get screenshot and send to translate api, if I can get the conversation direct for the game or api, the costs are reduced and more fun.

    1. If by conversation you mean the in-game spoken text, that's not available through the official API and is exceedingly hard to extract from the datafiles too. It's encrypted so that story points and updates don't leak out ahead of time.
So sorry, can't help you there.

    2. No No, i thought only in the text of game.
For people dont undestand english, to know something about of history.
Another feature as think, is translate tasks on maps, then name and what you do on the tasks.

Yesterday i found a arenanet api, but i can find the relation of regions/maps and tasks with showing in my character.

I think to do a simple overlay to tasks of map and skills to a new translate feature.

      Thanks for reply.

    3. There's just no way of translating in-game text without going deep into the client (that's a BIG no-no), and if you want to write text over the in-game text in an overlay you need to know both where the text is displayed and what is displayed. Neither is accessible through official APIs. So sorry again, can't help you there.

  57. Think a resize able and moveable heath bar. So can move the bar near the focal point of the screen so I don't have to look down to see it. Would help me to know when I need to myself of how fast it is dropping.

    1. The health information isn't available on the official API so this cannot be done.

  58. I would like to be able to add info text to a marker I just placed. I know it can be done by adding the info attribute to the most recent line in the poidata.xml file, but sometimes it would be convenient to add it from the TaCo game menu.

    1. Hey.
While there are big map completion marker packs for TacO, it's more of a marker system than a map system. You can place your own markers in-game, however searching and a "gps" style "turn left here" system is not part of the overlay.
